How early should a bride go dress shopping?

How many months prior to a wedding should a bride buy her wedding dress?

It takes 12 to 20 weeks for a manufacturer to make and deliver a wedding dress because of all the hand beading and work on the dress. Once you receive the dress, you need to allow time for alterations. So you should order your wedding dress at least 6 months in advance to make sure everything is perfect.

If your wedding is two or three years away, don't shop that early because styles will change and you might find another dress you like better.

A year in advance is more than enough time, 6 months minimum if you special order. Less than 6 months, you either pay a rush charge or buy the dress hanging on the rack.

It depends on where you buy your dress from. Cheaper places may let you buy off the rack, and just tailor the dress to fit you. More expensive or high-end places require you to order your dress anywhere between 6 and 12 months ahead of time, but tend to be well worth it because they will order a dress in your size, then spend the time to make sure it is perfect. Also, the dress will never be worn by anyone but you. Good luck!!

I would reccomend shopping and purchasing a wedding dress between 12-6 mos before the wedding. That way you have plenty of time for fittings and alterations. The final fitting should be 2-4 weeks before in case of any last minute adjustments, but an experienced seamstress will be able to advise what is best for each bride.

I would start shopping around at least 9 months before the wedding.

I found my dress about 10 months before the wedding and the timing was great - stress free. For myself, it takes 6 months to order the dress and receive it and another 2 months for alterations.

So definately, leave heaps of time - and give yourself a few weeks at least to shop around and see whats out there - i would have prefered to take more time - i still see dresses sometimes and think 'gosh what if i tried that one on' although i know mine is perfect :)

good luck... its so much fun, i miss it!

6-9 months prior to the wedding date. My wedding was in September 3 years ago. I went shopping in January and they had to order my dress - it didn't arrive until June and then I had the fittings so it was done right in time for the wedding.

I would say 9 to 10 months before the wedding.

This allows you to find the perfect dress for your taste,

and if there are changes that need to be made, they can be made and delivered back to you in a good amount of time before the wedding.

I don't think that it's every to early (I mean unless your not even engaged) But i know people who shopped for their gowns and were single. But in reality I was told told to order 12-6 months before the wedding and then final fittings at least 2weeks before

Wedding dress shopping was the first thing I did. We got engaged in June so by July/Aug. I was dress shopping. Our wedding was the following April.

I would go as soon as possible. You need to have everything you want about the dress perfect. So, it's best to go as soon as you know your date.

6 months minimum unless you are willing to buy off the rack

12 months is good to allow for shipping and alterations

As early as you possibly can so that weight can get off your mind!
