What is the traditional colour a bride wears in different countries?

In the England and most parts of America the bride wears white that symbolises purity. I'm curious too know about the traditional colour and symbolisim in other countries. I'm aware that times are changing and nowadays people can wear what they wish but one can't help to be curious or nosy!

It is not just English who wear white to be married - Scottish, Welsh and Irish do too.

Indian is Red (usually a sari) and I think Chinese is too but a lot now opt for the Western white dresses.

Traditionally you just got married in your Sunday best but when Victoria married Albert in white it started a trend which has continued until today.

well im not sure but In one county the brides gown is black I cant remember which one though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about other countries today but in the olden days in Britain the traditional colour was blue, it's where the 'something blue' in the rhyme comes from.

White also signified purity in Mexico

we didn't always wear white it used to be black. glad it's changed over time though i would hate to wear black at my wedding.

Mostly use white of offwhite color

chinese traditional color for auspicious occasions, & in this case,

RED is the only way to go...

but of course, we see that changing...

for japanese traditional wedding, the bride wears white , & the groom in black & white.

Greek has many colors to wear, all choices

Puerto Rico has always had white brides, before in Puerto Rico in old real old times when Spanish took over if the bride wore red to a wedding, the groom would think she would not fit into that family at all. They would hate her for a life. Plus the rumors of her being promiscuous would run allover the town. And you couldn't wear green before getting married or being in young age. that was a no-no for a women to do. i study literature from Puerto Rico and i know about the early times of Puerto Rico. Many things like funerals were also taken serious. But now days, forget it you can show part of your breast off in the wedding and nothing would happen.(unless a older person sees you).

WEll, in many Asian and African countries, White is the colour of mourning, so............dark colours are usually favoured there

In Italy it's white from second half of 19Th century.

Before there wasn't a traditional colour. You could wear the colour you prefer.

In India and Pakistan woman wear red and maroon but not all types of colors are being worn,
