OK, so you are the happy father of the bride and you are going to give a speech in your lovely daughter's wedding. If you are not accustomed to giving speeches you may find the situation awkward, even stressing, and you may ask yourself how - how do I put together a father of bride wedding speech that will be funny, witty and polite and the same time?
In this little article I will try to give you a few guidelines on how your speech should look like:
Part 1: Welcome and congratulations. This is easy. you are welcoming all the guests and thanking them for coming to the wedding on behalf of yourself and your wife (if she doesn't giving her own speech). It's important that you don't sound formal - be friendly and sound like you are welcoming a friend.
Part 2: Compliments and personal notes. People love hearing great things about themselves. They always listen up when you talk about them. So here's the part where you give them what they want. After complimenting the bride and groom you can say nice things about the guests and especially the groom and his family.
Part 3: Key events - You van choose a few great events from the bride's past. Always talk about things that compliment her and show her in a positive view - you don't want the groom to thing he made a mistake...
Part 3: anecdotes and funny stuff - It's always a good idea to include little bits of funny details about the couple as well as each one on them individually. Make use you only include thing that compliment the couple and don't embarrass them in public.
Part 4: Wishes and toasts - This is the closing of your speech, and if you do it right you can have a great effect on your audience. Your toast must be a special one, right from the heart. If your toast is th real deal, it will be the most memorable part of your whole speech.
So this concludes the wedding speech parts. Make sure you rehearse your speech enough times that it will flow naturally. Good luck and best wishes!
