Bride and Bridesmaid Flip Flops

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There was a time when flip-flops would be viewed with derision, because they were considered as informal, pieces of footwear that should only be worn to suitably informal locations like the beach or a garden party, at best. Some of us will still recall the commotion that was caused if some members of the North-western Women's Lacrosse team arrived at an official White House reception in casual sandals which critics derisively called them 'flip-flops'. Well, that was just as 2005, but the humble flip-flop has come a long way since then. This article and others that follow are to show how these casual sandals are not just respectable, but favored attire for all sorts formal occasions, such as weddings.

Humble origins

In truth flip-flops have originally not enjoyed an elevated position. This maybe because flip-flops are a type of thong sandal (though not the only kind) usually made of rubber, and is not a very fashionable substance, don't you think? However, there are also many very classy thong sandals, which aren't labeled flip-flops. By definition, therefore, flip-flops are a casual, slightly derided sandals that are easy to get in and out of, and easy to transport.

On bridal demand

Despite all of that, though, flip-flops are some of the most popular footwear items these days, and not just among the trendy people who want to dress unusually. In fact, proof of the increasing respectability of these sandals is their popularity as bridal foot attire. Many women who have suffered through a conventional wedding will testify to the hours of agonizing pain that a bride must go through in her stylish, traditional, shiny bridal pumps or agonizing stilettos. Not only must she walk and dance with these on, but she must also smile through it all. It is not a wonder, then, that brides have welcomed the idea of wearing casual sandals to their weddings with a vengeance, especially if the wedding in regard is not exactly the walking down the aisle variety.

Universal access

That is not to say that casual sandals should be undesirable in a church wedding, however it is correct that bridal flip-flops are more desirable at a beach wedding, perhaps, or a garden wedding. But to whatever type of wedding {ceremony} venue they are worn, flip-flops dp create a spontaneous atmosphere that encourages guests to relax and appreciate the wedding ceremony. In keeping with their popularity at weddings, bridal flip-flops are now available in more fashionable avatars, which means they can easily be used to church weddings, no worries at all. So if you are in the market bridal footwear, do not be at all amazed if the shop employee recommends casual sandals set with semi-precious stones, or decorated with sequins or beads.

Price rules

Maybe the number one thing about flip-flops, wedding or otherwise, is their very low price range. So much so, you can get rubber flip-flops for as low as a dollar, although you might want to spend a bit more than that on your wedding pair. If that is the case, you might have to spend all of five dollars at most. For sure, as soon as designers spot a good thing, its cost increases, so you can really splurge on a pair of designer flip-flops, though that is strictly a case of personal choice.

The Bride of Frankenstein Chose the Bridesmaid Dresses

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Weddings are lavish celebrations. A lot of money has to be spent on food, decorations, settings, and clothing. This became a concern for my daughter who has been attending more than a few weddings over the past couple of years. She came over to our house a few days ago seeking my help for a problem regarding the expensive prices of bridesmaid dresses.

My daughter had just come from a shopping trip with a friend who is planning to get married. On this trip they were supposed to pick out the bridesmaid dresses. The first problem became evident when she saw the price of the dress that the bride had picked out. The price was very high so she and the other attendants pointed this out to the bride. However, the bride would not listen to her and maintained that this was the dress she wanted them to wear.

The other problem was the color of the dress that the bride selected. My daughter was upset because the color was unattractive and she is concerned that she will look sickly in the photographs. She felt that the color would make her appear lifeless and washed out. She felt that the bride was purposely picking these bridesmaid dresses so that she would look a cut above anyone else in the wedding party.

My daughter also shared that she had spent hundreds of dollars on bridesmaid dresses for previous weddings and simply cannot afford to spend more than eight hundred dollars on this dress. She was not very close to the bride and she did not want to hurt her feelings. On the other hand, she did not want to spend a ton of money on an ugly dress that she was only going to wear once.

We discussed this problem for a long time and I suggested that she should simply be honest to her friend. She should explain to the bride that she could not afford the dress.

She was unwilling to do this, but she could not come up with other alternatives. She also told me that she will inform me of how things went. She was fearful that she was damaging a relationship over the price of bridesmaid dresses.

When she left my husband asked me why our daughter had been so upset. I told him about our daughter's problem. He told me that we should offer to pay for the dress so that she wouldn't have to charge it. I explained to him that the problem went beyond the cost of bridesmaid dresses and that I thought it was important for our daughter to take care of the situation.

After a couple of days, my daughter called me. She had spoken with the bride about the high cost and poor color of the dress. The bride became unusually upset and hung up on her. However, after a few hours the bride called back and apologized and asked our daughter if she would like to shop for a less pricey dress. It turned out that the other attendants had also complained about the dress to her. They all agreed to start over by finding new bridesmaid dresses.

Being a Bridesmaid

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Bridesmaids are the faithful, caring attendants of the bride at weddings. Usually, they're girls or young women that bear some relational association to the upcoming bride, either a close friend or relative. They attend to the bride before and after a wedding ceremony. They're usually the ones in the movies that buoy the bride, listen to her fears, cheer her on, help her with preparations, and pass on the collective excitement. The maid of honor is the most esteemed bridesmaid, and she plays a principal part. There is no fixed bridesmaid quantity because the decision has historically been left to the bride. The size of the bridesmaid group is sometimes associated, as a reflection, with wealth, success, or, obviously, how popular the bride is.

The term has wrought an idiom in modern times that glumly says, "always the bridesmaid, never the bride." This phrase is set aside for those delegated to a role of prime importance, yet they always fall short of the high honor or central import of an event.

The history of bridesmaids dates back to Roman times when an army of similarly clad bridesmaids would accompany the bride to the new husband's locale or village. In essence, these guards would protect the bride from robbers and bandits. In later times, the Romans made it a law to have 10 witnesses present at a wedding in order to ward off evil, magical spirits that were determined to destroy the marriage's fruitful conception and progress. These attendants, both bridesmaids and ushers, dressed in identical wear to the groom and bride, thus confusing the evil spirits that wished harm on the couple-to-be.

Bridesmaids are customarily given gifts for their efforts and the bride's appreciation of their inherent qualities. After all, they're the ones the bride has chosen to publicly accompany her on the most important day of her new life. Some good gifts are necklaces, earrings, stark white & long gloves, and the wedding day attire itself. Personalized gifts that commemorate the day's special events and the bridesmaids' participation, especially ones that are valuable too, are particularly appealing. They mark a feeling of togetherness and shared experiences. It's much more personal than a gift certificate. If the wedding is at a tropical travel destination, consider a bounteous gift of a day's treatment at the spa. Just make sure that someone is there to take a picture afterward. Have it framed specially and send a copy to all the bridesmaids for their children and their grandchildren. Make an impact with your gift choice that won't be forgotten. Handmade scarves, bracelets, wine glasses, chocolates, bottles of wine, bath salts, body products, scented candles, etc. are all genuinely good too.

Dresses for bridesmaids are a particularly important element, and they come in Bella Satin, Chiffron, Crystal Chiffron, Duchess Satin, Matte Satin, Nu-Georgette, Organdy, Renaissance Satin, and others. They come in royal blue, midnight, mocha, ginger, flame, sage green, forest green, frosty white, rose, ruby, sapphire, sorbet, sugar plum, tangerine, taupe, ruby, perwinkle, and bright pink, plus many more colors.

Tattooed Bridesmaid - Are Visible Tattoos Wedding Appropriate?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It's wedding season again; I blinked my eyes and now it's here. Over the past few wedding seasons, wedding forum questions related to visible tattoos on bridesmaids have increased significantly. Many of the forum questions were from either: a) the concerned bridesmaid, wondering if she should cover her own tattoos during the wedding or b) the bride desperately wanting her bridesmaids' tattoos concealed.

Whether you are in the shoes of A or B, you are not alone. According to a January 2008 Harris Interactive Poll, 32% of U.S. adults age 25-29 have at least one tattoo. With the average age of a first marriage in the U.S around 25-28 years of age, a visible tattoo may be affecting the dynamics of your upcoming wedding.

You are the bridesmaid

If you are the concerned bridesmaid, it's fantastic that you are open to concealing your tattoo for your friend's wedding day. Horror stories abound illustrating passive aggressive brides who never speak directly to the bridesmaid about covering visible tattoos, yet simply opt to air brush the tattoos out of the wedding photos. Imagine what the bridesmaid must think when she finds herself staring at unrecognizable photos of herself right after the wedding.

The best way to gauge the bride's opinion regarding your tattoo is to ask her. Open up the dialogue, ask what the bride's preference is and be open to what she says. Tattoos are every bit a part of you and the bride definitely understands what your ink represents. But, for this one day, turn the conversation to what your friendship represents and how you would do anything for the bride; the friend you are seeing off into marriage.

You are the bride

Quite possibly you are the the bride-to-be, distressing over your maid-of-honor's sleeve tattoo ruining your wedding photos. Relax, you can handle the no-tattoo chat with your friend; if you have a tactful plan:

1) Be fair. Think about your wedding party, are you going to ask all of the members to cover their tattoos too? Better yet, are you covering your own tattoos? If yes, carry on. If no, think about why you are asking your friend to cover her tattoo. Is there something within the tattoo that specifically offends you? Possibly a topless Betty Paige? If you are not going to ask the other members of the bridal party to cover up, then you need to tactfully convey your message to the bridesmaid in question.

2) Tell your bridesmaid that you know how important the tattoo is to her.

3) Come up with a plan. Will a shawl cover the tattoo for the wedding? Or will you purchase a tattoo cover up product such as Tattoo Camo (tattoocamo.com)? With either option, go online and take care of the purchase for your friend. We learned about Tattoo Camo through a study conducted by Joan Kneller, a woman embarking on her 2nd marriage with her ex husband's name still tattooed on her shoulder! You can read all about Joan's experience at tattoomakeup.org.

How to conceal tattoos with cover up

How do you cover up a tattoo with make-up? The make-up experts recommend that you purchase two shades of tattoo makeup, one lighter and one a tad darker than your skin tone. Start with the darker shade and briefly go over the bulk of the tattoo, then take the lighter shade and blend into the darker. Set with powder and you are good to go. Good luck and enjoy the wedding!

Role of a Junior Bridesmaid

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The junior bridesmaid is a young girl generally from the age of about 7 to 14, too old to be a flower girl, but too young to be a full-fledged bridesmaid. Girls of this age shouldn't be left out of the festivities as they will usually treat their role with great seriousness and honor.

While the junior bridesmaid isn't responsible for giving the bridal shower, they can still play an active role in the planning process, and shouldn't be excluded from meetings and get-togethers regarding the wedding. For the shower they can assist with decorating, clean up, make favors, help with the games, and also help with guests who may have special needs, among many other things.

Since junior bridesmaids aren't invited to racy bachelorette parties, they can still attend the milder pre-party that mom, grandma, and the other conservative guests are invited to. However, if the party is appropriate for all ages such as a daytrip to the spa, the junior bridesmaid should definitely be invited to partake in the fun.

Ask the junior bridesmaid her opinion about her dress and she'll feel honored that her input is so important to the bride, regardless of her young age. Junior bridesmaid dresses should be a similar color and either the same or a similar style as the bridesmaids. Strapless gowns or dresses that are cut too high may not be appropriate for younger girls, so straps could be added to existing gowns, or simply choose a similar style gown but with sleeves.

Junior bridesmaids shouldn't wear high-heels, but instead can wear flats or ballet slippers that match the dresses. The girls should also have either small bouquets to carry, or matching corsages or hairpieces.

If the junior bridesmaid is a child of either the bride or groom, she can play an extra special role in the wedding by either escorting the bride down the aisle, reading a poem, or even singing or playing a special song or instrument during the ceremony. Another lovely idea is to have everyone participate in an exchange of family vows. After the bride and groom say their vows, the junior bridesmaid and any other children of the newlyweds can gather around as their parents promise to love and cherish each of them equally.

Some duties of the junior bridesmaid include:

- Helping to assemble favors for the shower and wedding reception.

- Helping decorate for the shower or rehearsal dinners.

- Going dress shopping.

- Giving wedding programs to the guests as they arrive.

- Handing out rice, confetti, rose petals, or bubbles to guests for after the ceremony.

- Helping ushers seat guests before the ceremony.

- Walking down the aisle as part of the procession and standing in attendance during the ceremony.

- Standing in the receiving line, which is really only necessary at the request of the bride and groom.

- After the wedding, the junior bridesmaid should also write a note to the bride thanking her for including her as such a special part of her big day.

As they prepare for the wedding celebration, they focus largely on their ensemble and attire which they would wear on the special occasion. This is one aspect that cannot be ruled out as it formulates one of the chief wedding day preparations. As the bride and her lovely friends shop around for their gowns and dresses, they stumble the daunting task of picking out the correct pairs of shoes which will be able to match their dresses and likings. It can become a difficult task to elect one pair off the shelf due to the various numbers of brands and varieties that are on display. However, when deciding on quality, there is only one factor that comes to their minds; the internet.

Who Pays For Bridesmaid Dresses?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A bridesmaid in a wedding is the person, who caters to every need of the bride and helps her in pre-wedding, wedding and post-wedding arrangements. There is usually more than one bridesmaid in a wedding, but the principal bridesmaid is called "The maid of honor" or "The matron of honor" (if she is a married person).

History says that during the Roman period, the bridesmaids used to form a kind of army that helped protect the bride from thieves or scorned suitors on the way to the bridegroom's village. During the later Roman period, the number of bridesmaids was kept at ten to form witnesses to the wedding. In today's times, the bride gets to choose the number of bridesmaids that she would want in her wedding.

The principal bridesmaid or the maid of honor is usually a sister of the bride, a close relative or a friend dear to her. She, with the bride, helps in coordinating all the planning required before and during the wedding.

Before the wedding, she helps the bride in fixing up the venue to the wedding, helps in preparing the wedding list and sending out invitations to various guests, helping the bride with her shopping for the wedding gown and her other requirements, etc. She also coordinates the other preparations for the wedding with the other bridesmaids. She also takes charge of hosting a party called the Bridal shower, where gifts are brought to be given to the bride.

During the wedding, she helps the bride get ready for the wedding and assists in checking on the arrangements in the reception hall. She holds the groom's wedding ring that is handed over to the bride during the ceremony. She also holds the bride's bouquet and assists the bride in managing her veil. At the reception, she makes a toast to the newly wedded couple followed by a speech to congratulate them and to wish them luck with their wedded life. Overall, she acts as a backbone to the bride in seeing that the wedding goes on without a hitch.

As per tradition, the bridesmaids usually dress up in attire that is quite identical to the bride. This is a custom that originated with the belief that the similar clothing will confuse evil spirits as to who the bride is and protect the bride from any harm. Therefore, a bride would want her bridesmaid to be dressed up for the occasion in a dress that would suit her gown.

This brings up the question as to who has to buy the bridesmaid her dress for the wedding. Traditionally, the bridesmaid is expected to buy her own attire and accessories to go with her dress. She is also expected to bear all her other expenses such as travel, cost for hosting the bridal shower, etc.

Bridesmaid Checklist - Bridesmaid Duties and Responsibilities

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The title of "bridesmaid" is an important honor that a married woman-to-be usually bestows upon her best friend or close relative. Besides assisting the bride with the planning of her wedding, calming her fears, and sharing the excitement, there are certain responsibilities and duties that a bridesmaid should become familiar with.

As the wedding dates slowly approaches, there are plenty of thought-out plans to last-minute preparations that a bridesmaid faces. Things need ordering, items picked up, and invitations sent out. Depending on the level of your involvement, you can become a true life saver or make things worse with your frantic approach. Below you will find a few things to keep in mind when given the responsibility and respect of holding the "bridesmaid" position. You may or not be given these tasks to complete, but it is a good thing to make a list and go over the bride's expectations.

Planning

A bridesmaid may help with finding a location for the wedding; ordering flowers; organizing the theme of the wedding; picking out the invitations and addressing them; shopping for decorations, selecting food and beverage, situating the seating arrangement; helping decide who to invite; purchasing the gifts for the maid-of-honor and bridesmaid gifts; and purchasing bachelorette party gifts and bridal shower mementos.

Dresses

The bridesmaid may assist the bride in picking out the dresses worn during the ceremony, as well as help her make a final decision on the dress she will wear on her special day. A bridesmaid may attend all of the bride's fittings and give her constructive criticism. It is also important that the bridesmaid attend all of her fittings so the bride doesn't have to worry whether or not the bridesmaid dresses are a bust. It is also the responsibility of the bridesmaid to pick up her dress, try it on once again, and inspect the item to make sure there are no mistakes or flaws.

Wedding Shower

Before the wedding shower, a bridesmaid should make sure all of the favors are purchased. She should pick out a dress and decide what sort of gift she will bring, such as a naughty piece of lingerie for the honeymoon. The theme should be in place, decorations ordered and picked up on time. An array of games should be chosen and on hand for during the shower. Allotting various tasks to additional bridesmaids makes the process much easier. Food, drinks, and music are also details to consider.

During the wedding shower, it is important to arrive early for setup. You may also write down which presents came from whom, to make sending thank-you notes for the bride easier to accomplish. A bridesmaid also stays behind to help with the cleanup process.

Rehearsal Dinner

The bridesmaid may help the bride plan when and where the rehearsal dinner will take place. A dress is needed to attend this event. You should also come early to help with the setup and decorations. Bridesmaids may need to have an informal toast prepared for the dinner and be on hand for cleanup.

Wedding Day

It is important to make sure that all the necessary makeup, dresses, and shoes are in place and accessible for the big day. Bridesmaids should arrive early for picture taking and to lend a helping hand to a bride who might be quite nervous. Bridesmaids may also help direct guests to their assigned seats; meet and greet guests after the ceremony; and help with clean up if needed.

Being a Bridesmaid - How to Keep the Bride Happy

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The wedding bells will soon be ringing and you've found yourself wearing bridesmaid shoes. By asking you to be in the wedding party, the bride has invited you for to be a special part of one of the most important events in her life. As a bridesmaid, you will be responsible for helping the bride-to-be prepare for her wedding day. Sometimes, even the kindest of women can turn into the infamous "Bridezilla" during wedding planning. Help avoid bridal breakdowns by following these tips.

  • Realize It's Not Your Wedding: No matter how much you like being in control now is the time to practice restraint and let the bride to be call the shots. This doesn't mean that you can't offer your opinion or suggestions, but don't get upset or angry if she decides to go in the complete opposite direction. From the dress you wear to reception location your job is to be supportive of her decision.

  • Don't Take on More than You Can Handle: Part of being a brides maid is being there when she needs you. Your responsibilities can include anything from writing out invitation to helping her pick out her dress. While it is important to take part in activities she requests you do, it's also important to know your limits. If you think you're getting in over your head let her know. Taking on more than you can handle will leave her with tons of things that need to be done at the last minute and no one to do them. Basically, don't make promises you can't keep or take on tasks you can't complete.

  • Be Available: The fact that your in the wedding doesn't mean you need to put your entire life on hold, but it does me you should make plans to be available for things like dress shopping, the bachelorette party and the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Upon accepting the position as bridesmaid, speak to the bride-to-be and find out what she expects you to take part in.

  • Be Up-front and Honest: By asking you to be in the wedding party, the bride-to-be is telling you that she wants you to be front and center for this important part of her life and you should be honored by that fact. Unfortunately, weddings can be very expensive and depending on the bride, can require a very serious commitment on your part. If you don't feel you can live up to or afford your title as bridesmaid be honest and upfront from the beginning. She may be disappointed that you can't participate as a bridesmaid but she will be happy that you came to her and were honest instead of waiting until a month before the wedding.

  • Be Patient: The term "Bridezilla" wasn't coined and used for a popular television show for no reason. Women who are soon to be brides can do some crazy things. They can be emotional, angry, demanding, panicky, indecisive, or down right mean. While it's not always an acceptable way to act, it does happen and as a bridesmaid you may find your self biting your tongue more than once. Try to be understanding during this hectic time. There is no reason to let her walk all over you or other members of the bridal party, but if it does happen handle it as a mature adult by either addressing it quietly and calmly or simply letting is slip off your shoulder.

Beach Wedding - 4 Tips For Buying Bridesmaid Dress

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Beach weddings often indicate an occasion that is less glamorous compared to the traditional weddings. This does not mean though that the bride and the bridesmaids need not get glammed up. They have to - just not over the top - because it wouldn't look good in the laidback setting of the ocean behind them.

1. For beach wedding bridesmaid dresses, just make sure that the length of the gowns do not touch the sand. Ideally, the length is up to the calf. Bridesmaids must still look elegant but they should also be wearing dresses that allow them to easily walk on the beach.

These dresses can either be with sleeves or strapless but these should also match with the gown or the dress of the bride. Whatever style the bride's beach wedding dress is, it should be complemented by the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses.

2. The bride's beach wedding dress and the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses should also have matching hem lengths. For example, if the bride is wearing a gown that is of full length, then the bridesmaids should wear dresses or gowns of any length.

However, if the bride's beach wedding dress is shorter than the traditional gown, then the beach wedding dresses must also be short.

3. If the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses are strapless or are backless, then the bride must order wraps for them. Remember that the weather on the beach is so unpredictable. There is a possibility that the wedding day may be windy or cloudy.

Therefore, when the bride is buying beach wedding bridesmaid dresses, she should also look for designs that already have matching wraps. If not, then she must go to bridal shop or a formal wear shop that sells these items. She just has to set the wraps and the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses side by side to check that these match.

4. Also note that it is hard to walk on the sand so there is no point to wear stocking and heels. Dressier dresses require strappy sandals with short heels. If it is a more casual design, then one can just opt for flip flops with stylish decorations. Go for a bare look.

Bridesmaid Dresses for a Beach Wedding

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The perfect wedding is all about the perfect dress or gowns, looking good and sexy are every woman's dream especially on her ''wedding day''. Bridal gowns are available in different colors and sizes to compliment your personality. . The bridal gown you select for your wedding will probably be the most significant style decision you will have to make in your life.

Beach weddings are enormously beautiful but nature does give an element of insecurity. It's no surprise that beach weddings are becoming more and more popular. Beach Weddings also offers a beautiful ceremony for renewing your vows. When a wedding takes place on the beach, it is likely that the weather will be warm and dry. Brides with beach weddings in the past have worn anything from a white bathing suit and sarong to a full-blown princess style wedding gown with all the bridal trimmings. Most of the bridesmaid dresses out there were too formal and just too much for the beach.

When purchasing a wedding gown for the beach, there are a few things to keep in mind. Like any wedding, you get what is within your budget. This is when it would be a good idea to choose a wedding gown that is above the ankles. Also, if the weather is going to be very warm you may want to get a wedding gown that is made of light, thin material. Of course there are people who decide to have very traditional looking dresses even when the wedding is on the beach. The classic beach wedding dress is cool, casual, and relaxed, yet sexy and beautiful.

The Bride of Frankenstein Chose the Bridesmaid Dresses

I told him about our daughter’s problem. He told me that we should offer to pay for the dress so that she wouldn’t have to charge it.
