Famous Wedding Movies - "Father of the Bride"

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the most delightful movies about weddings is the 1991 hit Father of the Bride starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Martin Short in the unforgettable role of Franck the wedding planner. It was actually a remake of a classic Spencer Tracey comedy, but I found the more recent version to be even funnier than the original. The movie tells the tale of a loving dad who nearly loses his mind during the planning of his daughter's wedding.

There are many parts of Father of the Bride that real-life dads will relate to. The wave of nostalgia that hits Steve Martin when he realizes that his little girl is all grown up is very touching, and is a sentiment shared by many fathers of the bride. Most dads will also relate to the sticker shock experienced by Martin's character, George Banks.

The sweetness of the father-daughter relationship is balanced by the hilarity of the actual wedding planning process. Franck the wedding planner is definitely the funniest and most memorable part of the movie. From his insistence on swans, the scene over the navy blue tuxedo, and all of the other costly "must-haves" that he arranges, he is an absolute gem.

One of the best known scenes in Father of the Bride is when Annie's fiance gives her a blender. He thinks that it is a thoughtful gift (Annie likes milkshakes); she thinks that it is a symbol of his intention to turn her into a 1950s housewife after the wedding. Naturally, Annie's father steps in and smooths things over. The blender fiasco is a perfect example of how people can go a little crazy during the stress of planning a wedding!

Annie's bridal ensemble was very traditional. She wore a long sleeved gown with a lace illusion neckline. It was an elegant and lovely dress, which she completed with a full veil and blusher. With such a high neckline, the bride did not wear a necklace, but she did choose pearl bridal jewelry for earrings. Annie's pearl bridal jewelry was dangle earrings, which are a nice choice when there is no necklace being worn. She completed the look with a pair of sneakers from her father's sneaker company hidden under her full skirt.

Father of the Bride shows why it is not less expensive to have your wedding at home. Between the renovations, the gardening, and the fancy birds, it would have been more affordable to have the wedding in a club. This is often the case with weddings at home, because not only will you have all of the costs associated with renting everything from forks to a tent, but you will surely see a hundred ways that your home must be spruced up to look perfect for your wedding.

Anyone planning a wedding should take the time to sit down and watch Father of the Bride. It is an adorable, lighthearted movie that will provide a relaxing break during the hectic days of planning your own wedding. And in case you are wondering what happens after the wedding, rent Father of the Bride II (I'll give you one hint: babies!).

How To Find An Asian Bride - Easy And Free!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Most men waste thousands of dollars and endless hours in the hopes of marrying an Asian woman. There are no definitive guides online and many of the "mail order bride" sites for Asia are illegal or reputed to conduct illegal activity. It is for this reason that I have written this article. I will tell you exactly how to find an Asian bride. It is easy for anyone and free.

You should know that in 1990, the government in The Philippines created the Republic Act 6955. This act prohibits websites that help to facilitate marriages between its citizens and foreigners. In intervening years, similar acts have been created throughout Asia, and most Asian countries now view such sites in a poor light. The reputation of Asian mail order bride sites has further been tarnished due to much-reported illegal activity; namely identity and credit card theft.

So what does this all mean for a man, like yourself, who wants to know how to find an Asian bride? Believe it or not, it has never been easier to find an Asian wife online. The years of regulation has actually created a simple, free method for men like yourself to find their wives in Asia. And the good news is very few men know about it. This makes it all the more effective because you have less competition.

There are thousands of Asian women online who want a foreign husband. Due to legislation in their home countries they can, of course, not use the bride sites. What this has caused is a massive upsurge in Asian women joining dating communities in the hopes of meeting a foreign husband. Many of these communities are free of charge.

The simple method of how to find an Asian bride begins with you becoming a member of a large, international dating community. When you create your profile, be sure to write down that you are looking for an Asian bride. This will discourage other types of women and, of course, encourage husband-seeking Asian ladies.

Once your profile is ready, and your photographs are uploaded, all you need to do is a country-search for women. Select your preferred Asian country and bring up a list of women. Believe it or not, the majority of these women will actually be husband-seeking. Send friend invitations to them and a brief accompanying email that explains your desire to find a wife. The women who accept your invitation will be interested in finding a foreign husband. You can then get to know these women by exchanging emails and chatting to them.

This process is entirely legal and most men are unaware of just how many Asian women are using dating sites to find husbands.

Lastly, an important tip to help you get started immediately: Make A Free Profile here because this is the largest dating community I know and has a huge international population. You can join for free and upgrade to a paid account if you like the service. I strongly advise any man who wants to know how to find an Asian bride to use this service and it seems to work well.

Engagement Party Etiquette

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Having an engagement party is a great way to announce you are to be married to all your friends and family. You can have an engagement party that is simple as a brunch with a few friends and family, or you can make it a grand event, giving your guests a taste of what is to come when it is time for the wedding and reception.

Who is Expected to Host the Party?

In the past, the engagement party was planned and paid for by the parents of the bride. Often it was an informal affair, cocktails, or cake and dessert and it was held at the bride's home. Nowadays, anyone can plan the engagement party if they so desire, and it is socially acceptable for anyone to foot the bill.

What Is Expected at an Engagement Party?

The father of the bride usually makes a toast, formally announcing the engagement of his daughter. It is proper for her fiancé to stand along with his parents in front of all the assembled guests as an introduction at this time. If the announcement isn't a surprise, you may opt to introduce the groom and his parents as the guests arrive instead.

Who Gets Invited?

Typically close friends and relatives are invited, but you can invite anyone that you want to celebrate such a happy occasion along with you. The only thing you need to remember is that whoever you invite to the engagement party must be invited to the wedding and the reception. To do otherwise is a serious breach of etiquette.

If money is a consideration, don't be embarrassed to just invite those people who are top priority in the life of the happy couple. Remember, though you have to invite all the guests at the engagement party to the wedding, you don't have to invite all the wedding guests to the engagement party.

What about Gifts?

Gifts are not expected from people who are merely casual acquaintances. Giving a present for an engagement party is not an obligation and you should not feel disappointed if you don't receive a gift from a particular guest. They will be expected to attend a few more events associated with your wedding such as the bridal shower and the wedding, so you will get your gifts then.

An engagement party shouldn't be about gifts anyway. It should be about sharing the joyous news of your impending marriage with people who know and love you. It should be a happy celebration where the bride and groom invite their attendants to join them when they are ready to exchange their vows and the maid of honor and the best man are introduced as well.

The Important Roles of the Mother of the Bride

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Not too long ago, the mother of the bride did most of the planning for her daughter's wedding. This ranged from helping her choose her dress to helping her choose her bridesmaids to making the actual preparations for the wedding ceremony and the reception. The mother of the bride was in a unique position to do so - after all she had been a bride herself not too long ago and was aware of the traditions and customs. Often, the daughter's wedding was also when the mother got to do some of the things that she would have loved to have at her own wedding but couldn't - because her mother was managing things!

Of course, things have changed a lot since then. Nowadays, brides are no longer naïve creatures unaware of the workings of the world. Most have careers and have lived by themselves for many years. They are thus highly likely to have very definite ideas about what to have and what not to have at their weddings. Apart from this, there are also professional wedding planners who have taken on the task of planning and organizing the wedding from the mother of the bride.

However, despite this, the mother of the bride still has a very important role to play at her daughter's wedding though the exact level of involvement depends on the bride and her mother. On occasions when the wedding is being held at the home of the bride's parents or in their hometown, it is but natural that the involvement of the mother of the bride will be much more than it would be if the wedding was being held somewhere else.

The most important role that the mother of the bride plays is that of the primary support of the bride. Weddings nowadays can be very stressful, physically, emotionally and mentally. It is not rare for brides to feel overwhelmed by it all. It is up to the mother of the bride to always be there for her daughter when her daughter needs her, with a sympathetic ear and a strong shoulder to lean on. The mother of the bride should ideally be ready with a warm smile and some practical advice whenever things go a bit out of control, having been through the whole crazy process herself.

The mother and father of the bride should ideally also handle the guest list for their side of the family starting with deciding on who all will be attending and going on to sending out the invitations, checking up on RSVPs and, if required, making arrangements for the travel and accommodation of out-of-state guests. The mother of the bride also acts as the hostess at the reception making sure that all the guests are welcomed and taken care of.

In addition to this, the mother of the bride may also have to help out the bride with a range of activities such as picking out the dress and looking for wedding locations. In general, it is a good idea for the mother of the bride to have a chat with her daughter well before the wedding to find out what all her daughter expects her to do as this will help both of them plan things better. It is best to let the bride decide such matters. If she feels that she needs a lot of her mother's help, her mother should accommodate her needs as far as possible.

On the other hand, should the bride feel that she can manage without too much of her mother's help, her mother should not feel bad about it and should gracefully accede to her wishes. Of course, either way, she must also make it clear that she stands ready to help her daughter, anytime her daughter needs it.
