What could be more exciting than a bride-to-be's upcoming wedding ceremony?
Think of all the planning, gift registering, invitation mailing, wedding shower attending - it's all about one thing - bringing little girl fantasies to life with one big, amazing, fabulous wedding day.
Well, in response the question of what could be more exciting, one answer is, expecting the birth of a child! And to top that scenario, how about if she's anticipating her wedding day, and expecting the birth of a child, all at the same time?
The expectant bride.
Who is she? What changes does she have to make?
For starters, the expectant bride is one of the many first time pregnant brides who will be getting married this year. Statistics say that there will be 10% of first time brides joining her in a pregnant march down the aisle.
And as far as the challenges she faces, well, of course there's big one of motherhood. Aside from that, and where her wedding day is concerned, the only real changes she'll have to make is refraining from too much "wedding toasting" and switching from a traditional bridal dress to a maternity wedding dress.
The rest of it - remains the same. These days, being a pregnant bride doesn't have to mean a quickie courthouse ceremony and hanging one's head in shame. Celebrate your love and your upcoming baby reveal all at the same time, and do it with pride and style!
So what's the hard part?
Choosing the right dress! But then, that's a big venture for any bride. Although the expectant bride may have had a different image of the wedding dress she would one day wear, it doesn't mean she can't still look absolutely stunning. Maternity wedding dresses of today are not the moo-moo, shapeless, tents of yesterday.
The pregnant body is a beautiful body and showing it off, with a figure flattering style is not only appropriate, it's a great way to say, "I'm in love and I'm pregnant and I'm proud of it!"
When it's time to shop for a maternity wedding dress, the bride-to-be must take into consideration all of the same factors the traditional bride has to keep in mind including:
Venue - Is it an outdoor wedding? Is it formal? Semi-formal? Traditional setting? Contemporary venue? Day? Night? These things are important when choosing your gown or dress because it's best to enhance the venue not fight it. Wearing a full length crystal covered heavy ball gown to a beach wedding is not a good idea because not only does it not fit in with the venue, it's also too hot! No pregnant woman wants to walk 20 yards in the sand while wearing a 9-pound beaded gown.
Body Type - Just because a bride is pregnant doesn't mean she can't go strapless or backless or sheer (here and there) unless she's never been able to wear those styles before. If her body type isn't flattered by a strapless gown, then she should opt for some sort of sleeve. Maternity wedding dresses are cut to fit the body in a pregnant state which means, the dress will fit snugly everywhere but will have extra material in the belly area. So if one's body isn't fabulous in a backless dress, then one should not wear a backless maternity dress to her wedding. The good thing is, if one wants to wear a backless maternity dress, she can, because they're now created in literally every style as is a traditional bridal gown.
Being pregnant and getting married are two of the biggest highlights in a woman's life, and two of the most stressful times as well. Thankfully, choosing a maternity wedding dress doesn't have to be one of the hard parts of getting married and having a baby. With so many styles and options, designers have made it easy to choose the dress; which leaves the expectant bride much more time to focus on being a future wife and mother.
