Mature Foreign "Bride-to-be" From Britain

What happened when 'Our Jen' met the Turkish youngblood, Ibo?

Maybe you've already heard the old (and mean-spirited) French joke that, "It's not possible to tell the difference between a corpse and a British-girl making love"... But when I lived and worked in Britain back in my salad-days, it didn't take long for me to realize that a cool British exterior usually camouflaged a fiery hot sensuality. And, if you're worried that such sensuality is a thing of the past, consider the following story [figuratively translated from a recent Hürriyet Gazetesi human-interest article] that drifted north to us, up along the Aegean coastal road....

The 'Mature Bride' Debate in Didim, Turkey

The number of young Turkish men wishing to marry mature British woman is gradually increasing -- in this resort community of 8,500 British-owned homes (soon to be 10,000).

It's being said that the young men are entering these romantic relationships for materialistic reasons, but the mature British women don't seem to mind. They just cite the Thailand example.

In the Thai situation, mature British men married young Thai women. So (these mature British women say) why shouldn't mature British women marry young Turkish men in Didim? Which is just what Jennis Haurthon (sic) plans to do with Ibrahim Badak...and Jennis is 28 years older than the 22 year-old Ibrahim.

The upcoming marriage (because it's been so much in the news) has become a 'cause célèbre' -- with equal numbers of supporters and detractors in the local British and Turkish communities speaking for and against it. To people who speak against their marriage plans, Jen says, 'We are in love.'

Since we're not persuaded that 'just rewards' await any of us in the hereafter for our forbearance -- we say, Go for it Jen and Ibo!

Hen Nights For Mature Brides

Image : http://www.flickr.com

While wild nights on the town getting blinding drunk may have been a good idea for a hen night when you were twenty, but if you're planning a hen night for a mature bride, you're probably looking for something a little more modest.

The following are a few ideas covering something for every budget:

1. A Home Demonstration Party

If you're a mature bride arranging your own hen night, a home demonstration party can be a good option. Lingerie and cosmetics parties are always popular and can be a lot of fun. Arrange for food to be delivered and have plenty of wine available.

2. Pampering

Treat the bride to a day at a health club or a weekend at a spa. There's nothing quite as relaxing before a wedding as lounging in a Jacuzzi, and the sauna will make her skin glow, ready for the big day.

3. Visit A Comedy Club

Take her to a comedy club where she can have a drink and laugh her stockings off. If you let the club know about the hen-night beforehand, one of the acts may well give her a mention.

4. A Recording Studio Session

There are companies that arrange a variety of hen activities and, when it comes to the mature bride, a recording studio session with all guests dressed as pop stars will not only be good fun, but the tape will be a lasting reminder of her last day out with the girls as a single woman.

It can also be fun to theme a hen night but do keep in mind the bride to be's age; a mature bride probably won't be overly keen on dressing up as a school girl or wearing a pink fairy costume. Good ideas include:

* Decade Theme - Everybody dresses in clothing representative of a specific decade. Choosing the decade during which the bride-to-be was a teenager is always a big hit on hen nights.

* Hippies - Especially popular if the mature bride-to-be grew up during the 60s but can be used for others.

* Initial Fancy Dress - Each guest dresses as something that starts with the same initial as her forename. Examples are: A = Alien, G = Go-Go Dancer, P = Police Woman and S = Spanish Senorita.

What's important is that any hen night activity arrangements are made with the bride to be in mind, rather than the guests. It's her time to spend with her friends - it's up to the arrangers to make sure it will be one she'll remember for the right reasons.

Have fun!
