Diamond Wedding Rings Have Great Importance

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Diamond wedding rings represent the most precious of bonds, that of the bond between a man and a woman. This bond of holy matrimony is the ultimate step in life, to agree to be together for life as a couple. No longer had two separate individuals now joined as one. Such a sacred sacrament requires a symbol that is worthy of the relationship.

Diamond weddings rings represent the circle of life, an unbroken circle and the diamond accents the ring showing the importance of this bond. The wedding band is the final step in a series of commitments that start with an engagement ring. The engagement ring shows the intent to unite and the wedding ring is the creation of that bond.

The tradition of exchanging rings has existed since the days of the Roman Empire and possibly earlier. Along the way other traditions have been added. The different levels of commitments in some cases actually start with a friendship or pre engagement ring.

In historic times the wedding rings were more than a sign of love and commitment; they also represented the type of earnest money, or put in another way, a deposit. In the wedding ceremony the groom actually spoke the following words "With this ring I thee wed and this gold and silver I give thee" he would then hand her a leather satchel of gold and silver pieces.

Modern times do not require the handing over of a satchel of gold and silver but it is understood that the possessions of each individual will be shared. Regardless of the exchange of wealth or not the ring still represents the same thing, intent to be united for life. This ring should represent how precious that is and this is one of the reasons that the most precious gem on earth is so often added to the wedding band.

The diamond wedding ring is such an important part of the relationship that many major religions mention it during the ceremony, including Christianity and Judaism. The Jewish religions states as sharing the ring, "with this ring you are consecrated to me according to the Law of Moses and Israel". The Christian commitment varies slightly from one form of Christianity to the other but they all basically share something along the lines of the following "Take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity".

The importance of the ring is easy to see, however the selection of the ring should be equally as important. While in many cases the bride does not see the engagement ring before it is given to her, this is not true of the wedding bands. The tradition is for the bride and groom to shop together for these rings. After all not only are these signs of a commitment but they are also a decorative piece of jewelry that needs to reflect the personality of the couple and particularly the bride.

When shopping for diamond wedding rings it is important to shop around a little and be sure to find the best price, service agreement and warranty possible. Naturally the rings should be something that you both admire and want to wear on your finger the rest of your life. Also be sure to use reputable jeweler that certifies the authenticity of the diamond.
